Grown Mid Century
How a house responds to its family growing up.
So often clients come to us loving their home, wanting functional updates without losing the character and history that they have grown into. The kitchen in this mid century home wanted to live large to keep up with family dinners! By adding onto the back of the house and reincorporating a half bath space, the kitchen can fully function for a family of 4…plus one cat, one dog. Flat panel walnut cabinet doors and handmade local tile, ties this addition into the vintage modern aesthetic of the existing home.
Another growth spurt…Three bedrooms on the second level allowed enough for everyone, but one was under sized. What was great as a nursery, wasn’t ideal for a growing teenager. By adding another room to the main level with an adjacent ¾ bath, the house can now accommodate the family growing up. It can function as a sunroom now with a pull-out sofa for guests, a quiet study space or eventually a teenager’s bedroom. Or the occasional boomerang college student. Maybe it’s too nice…?
